Although spring registration has officially closed, please reach out to our Enrichment VP via email if you have questions about spring courses.

Important Registration Tip - How to Save Money:  The processing fees are included in the prices in the flyer.  If you have the ability to pay with an E-Check (electronic check) that will save you money.  The fees on an electronic check are a flat fee of .59 cente whereas payment by credit card, like with most companies, will cost you an additional 3.5% on your total purchase. All you need to pay with an E-check is your bank routing number and bank account number.

The Clara Barton PTSA offers an Enrichment Program with classes that will help students to:

  • Grow in new areas and learn new skills
  • Connect with kids from other grades and classes
  • Build community with local and national education providers

Whether learning to play chess, building confidence singing, learning new languages, art, karate, robotics, math or modern dance. We have a comprehensive before and after-school program to keep students positively engaged. We hope you find exciting, fun opportunities from PTSA for your student. Please read policies and procedures before registering.

Before registering, please note:

  • All classes are in person.
  • Morning classes are from 8:10-9:10. Afternoon classes are from 3:55-4:55. Wednesday afternoon classes are from 2:25-3:25.
  • Most classes run 7-8 weeks.
  • We request every participating family to sign up to chaperone for at least one class.

Please read the Enrichment Program Class Policies and Procedures for details on refund and cancelation policies, chaperoning, and additional terms and conditions. By enrolling in before and after-school activity, you agree to the class policies and procedures.

 

Financial Assistance

Financial need-based scholarships may be available upon request. Please email school counselor, Madison Lecompte at mlecompte@lwsd.org

  • All student scholarship requests will be made directly to the school counselor, who will determine which students qualify.
  • By request, one Before or After School Enrichment Class per scholarship eligible student per enrichment semester may be sponsored as the Before/After School Classes budget allows.
  • A maximum of 1 spot per 10 registration spots available for enrichment classes may be held back for scholarship students.

 

 

Basketball (Grades 2-5)

Mondays for girls and Fridays for boys

Learn Basketball with coaches from Redmond High’s Varsity team students and Uptown Basketball coaches. These classes will be held outdoors in the covered area at Clara Barton Elementary.

(If gym becomes available; PTSA may hold classes indoors but please sign up assuming that these classes are outdoors.)

In addition to Uptown coaches we will have three high school coaches too. Here are there bios-

Sofia Aluas is 16 years old and a starting guard for the Eastlake Varsity Girl’s basketball team.  She was MVP this year when Eastlake won Girl’s 4A state championship.  She started playing basketball in elementary school and is excited to help young girls develop interest and skills in the sport.

Brice Davis and Kyle Paddleford are Juniors and Varsity basketball athletes at Redmond High School.  They first played Rec basketball together in the 2nd grade and have played organized basketball ever since.  They played Redmond Select Basketball together from 4th grade through 8th grade, and have played high school basketball for the past three seasons.  Brice and Kyle have an understanding of youth basketball and an ability to communicate with kids of all ages and skill level.  They are excited to offer skills development and training to Clara Barton students.

Karate (Grades K-5)

Karate Students will learn and practice Karate skills with punching bags, breaking boards, blocking drills, kicking targets and more!  Karate-X has been teaching in the Puget Sound for 20 years, with a Martial Arts program specifically designed for preschool and elementary students.  Our professional instructors know how to motivate kids while building self-confidence and discipline. Belt rank testing is held at the end of each session, giving students goals to aim for and recognition of their accomplishments. Thousands of kids have enjoyed Karate-X classes, and yours will love it too!

Teacher Information:

Sensei Brendan Requa has been a top instructor with Karate-X for 8 years.  He is a natural at working with kids, and in the past 20 years has been a preschool teacher, sports coach, and para-educator.  He has a passion for seeing kids work through challenges to be the best they can be! Most importantly, he enjoys seeing kids have fun while learning Karate!

Student Information:

Karate-X has been teaching extracurricular Martial Arts classes exclusively in private and public schools for over 20 years.  From the start our focus has been bringing quality Martial Arts instruction into schools, specializing in teaching students from 4 years old through 6th grade. Karate-X classes focus on all the traditional Martial Arts benefits parents care about – focus, discipline, challenge, and fun!

Art by CreART (Grades K-5)

Students will be focusing on sketching, painting and creating 3D Art forms with Clay. We will create art inspired by artists Heather Galler, Jim Dine and Georgia O’Keeffe using a variety of art mediums such as Clay, Watercolors, Oil Pastels and Chalk Pastels. Sample projects: Paper Stain Glass, Clay Flowers, Flower Bouquet, Exotic Bird Sculptures, Dragon Eyes, and more....New take home project at the end of each class.

Singing (Grades 3-5)

Singing skills are essential to young performers interested in musical theater. Geared for students who want to study voice but are not ready to commit to private singing lessons, this small class is perfect for the aspiring performer. Students will study musical terms and singing techniques and explore their voices through solos from Broadway and movie musicals. At the end of the session students will confidently sing solo for families and show off what they’ve learned!

With experienced, best in the biz teaching artists, we are excited to offer performing arts programming this year for Grades K-12. Our goal is to come alongside you, and support and inspire your students in their creative learning.

Debate (Grades 3-5)

Students debate at a challenging but supportive level. They research topics, take both sides on the topic, and present cases, refute opposing cases, defend their cases and summarize the debate to persuade their judges. Topics are mostly chosen by students and have included school cell phone use, ending plastic bags, video game effects on kids, vaccine mandates, and cigarette sales. Recognitions for all and for top teams and speakers finish the program.

Note: 70 minute class.

 SCRATCH - Coding with Kids (Grades 3-5)

Coding with Kids: Begin your coding journey by creating your own games! This course lays down the foundations for future coding success. Students learn basic coding concepts, such as Variables, Loops, and Conditionals and apply these concepts to create interest-based games, mazes, and animated stories. Projects and activities are all designed to allow students to use their creativity while learning coding.

Robotics - Superstructures (Architecture) Grades 3-5

Chess (Grades K-5)

In this chess program students will practice learning with games against their peers, have a focused lesson and play fun variant chess games. In advanced classes, a simulated tournament will be organized. Any skill level is welcome.

Science of Superpowers (Grades K-2)

In Snapology's Science of Superpowers program, children will learn about the science behind their favorite heroes' powers. Students will learn about gravity, aerodynamics, forces, motion, and much more as they learn about flight, super villain fights, and superhero vehicles.
