Passport Club

The Passport Club, a geography enrichment program, is an effective and fun way to help achieve geographic literacy. Learning the locations and pronunciations of the world’s countries is an important starting point in understanding our world. From there, students build an understanding of what goes on within the almost 200 independent nations on our globe.

Participation in the Club helps students:

  • Build a foundation in global literacy
  • Inspire curiosity about the world
  • Make existing curriculum global

Help give our students the world! Consider making Passport Club a family challenge and join your student, and encourage them to regularly study their maps.

Registration is FREE and open to all students in grades 1-5. Review the Passport Club Levels and information below before clicking the registration button.

Passport Club Levels

Talk to your student and decide the appropriate level of study for the school year.  Most students remain in the same level all year; however, the program accommodates upward and downward movement mid-year.  For example, if a student has been ill, they may opt to move down a level; and if a student has gained confidence, they may opt to move up.

Level One This is an “introductory level” for any student who wants to focus on five countries per month. This level is typically recommended for first grade students.  Most Level One countries are large and well known or are significant in some way, such as Panama for its canal.  Students will learn 40 countries total, seven continents.  All students are encouraged to participate in at least Level One.
Level Two This “intermediate level” includes 10 countries per month.  This level is typically recommended for second grade students. Level Two teaches the location of 80 countries plus the seven continents and three great oceans. Note: This level includes Level One and Two.
Level Three This “advanced intermediate level” involves 15 countries per month, (except September and December), or 115 countries total.  It is a good “compromise level,” and will have some of the lesser-known countries and island groupings.  It also includes the continents, plus four oceans, two seas, the Equator, and the Prime Meridian. It is most often used in third-grade classrooms. Note: This level includes Level One, Two, and Three.
Level Four This challenging “expert level” includes all independent nations. Twenty-five countries are studied each month (except September and December). In addition, students learn the continents, oceans, seas, bays, gulfs, Oceania, the Equator, and the Prime Meridian.  Note: This level includes Level One, Two, Three, and Four.
Level Five This VERY challenging level includes Levels One through Four plus the locations and pronunciations of the corresponding capital cities for all countries in Level One. Students will also learn major deserts and mountain ranges.

Virtual Classroom

The Passport Club is designed for face-to-face interaction between students, teachers, and volunteers; however, during remote learning, students access the program virtually. Through the Virtual Classroom, students participate in activities that introduce countries they will study. Students may also click on video links for enrichment and independent study related to the countries. Instructions for using the Virtual Classroom will be emailed each month.
