How to help your child’s anxiety in the classroom

Image of a student sitting on the ground with head down and eyes closed. A backpack is next to the student.

As more elementary students return to in-person school, we offer information about anxiety. Here are a few things to remember when your child feels anxious.

* The goal isn’t to eliminate anxiety but to help a child manage it.
* Don’t avoid things just because they make a child anxious.
* Think things through with the child.
* Don’t reinforce the child’s fears.

Want to know more about how to respect feelings without empowering fears? Read the articles, “How to help your child’s anxiety in the classroom,” (https://ptaourchildren.org/anxiety-in-the-classroom/) from National PTSA or get the “Tips on how to cope with an anxious child” (https://ptaourchildren.org/child-anxiety/) from Child Mind Institute.

PTSA celebrates Black History Month

Also, join LWPTSA for its February Brown Bag Lunch & Learn presentation and discussion, “Unconscious bias and how it impacts our lives,” on Thursday, February 18, 12:00–1:00 PM. The Brown Bag is open to all community members and is hosted online. More information is available here. Questions? Contact Yumna A. Green, LWPTSA EVP, EVP@lwptsa.net.

Thank you, Bobcat Reflections artists!

The LWPTSA Council Reflections committee announced results from the 2020-21 competition. While Bobcat entries were not among the 65 total to advance to the WSPTA level of the competition, we celebrate all our students that participated with creative works of art.
