As more elementary students return to in-person school, we offer information about anxiety. Here are a few things to remember when your child feels anxious.
* The goal isn’t to eliminate anxiety but to help a child manage it.
* Don’t avoid things just because they make a child anxious.
* Think things through with the child.
* Don’t reinforce the child’s fears.
Want to know more about how to respect feelings without empowering fears? Read the articles, “How to help your child’s anxiety in the classroom,” (https://ptaourchildren.org/anxiety-in-the-classroom/) from National PTSA or get the “Tips on how to cope with an anxious child” (https://ptaourchildren.org/child-anxiety/) from Child Mind Institute.
National PTA has created information on the unique challenges black children face and ways we can better support their families to achieve student success. Celebrate Black History Month with articles, guides and information from PTSA available here.
